The department is classified into Cardiovascular Surgery and General Thoracic Surgery. Cardiovascular Surgery practices surgical treatment for heart disease (coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic disease, and congenital heart disease). General Thoracic Surgery performs surgical treatment for pulmonary (lung cancer, pneumothorax), esophageal disease (esophageal cancer, esophageal perforation), and mediastinal tumors. Furthermore, the department provides treatment for chest trauma, carotid artery stenosis causing stroke, hyperhidrosis and varicose vein that affect everyday life, and peripheral artery stenosis resulting in leg pain. Additionally, the department applies Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to critically ill patients, such as acute myocardial infarction, severe pneumonia, severe heart failure and respiratory failure, and resuscitates the patients. The department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery is the most mandatory in the treatment for the critical patients in a general hospital.
